New York AG Lashes Out At Trump In Civil Fraud Case: 'No One Is Above The Law'

New York Attorney General Letitia James spoke to the press outside the court highlighting the importance of the trial involving former president Donald Trump‘s business fraud.

"Donald Trump and the other defendants committed persistent and repeated fraud. No matter how powerful you are, no matter how much money you think you may have, no one is above the law,” she said, as reported by WFXR TV.

Trump stands trial in New York on business fraud charges, with potential fines reaching up to $250 million and loss of control over his prized properties.

Trump has labeled the case as "the single greatest witch hunt of all time." He accused James, who initiated the case, of being a “racist horror show.”

The charges are based on allegations that Trump deliberately misrepresented his wealth in financial statements provided to banks, insurers, and others. Judge Arthur Engoron, who has already ruled that Trump committed fraud by inaccurately valuing his assets, was dubbed a “Democrat operative” by the former President.

The stakes of this civil trial are high, as they could lead to Trump losing control of his properties like Trump Tower. His Mar-a-Lago estate, valued at approximately $739 million in 2018, was allegedly overpriced by about 20 times its actual worth, according to prosecutors.

The trial, which could last until the end of the year, could result in a $250 million fine if Trump is found guilty.
