In an unprecedented event, Rep. Kevin McCarthy‘s (R-Calif.) tenure as House Speaker has been abruptly halted by his colleagues who voted him out.
According to a report by Business Insider report, the removal from this leadership role implies significant losses for the California Republican.
One of the substantial losses is McCarthy’s speaker’s salary of $223,500 annually. As a regular House member, his earnings will drop sharply to $174,000.

Furthermore, McCarthy will no longer be part of the “Gang of Eight,” a group of congressional leaders privy to classified intelligence briefings from the executive branch.
The report also highlights that McCarthy will have to vacate the Office of the Speaker in the Capitol, a spacious, lavishly decorated suite located in the core of the main Capitol building. McCarthy’s new office will likely be in one of the congressional office buildings adjacent to the Capitol, a considerable distance from the House chamber.
