A Woman Is Suing Disney Over Water Slide 'Wedgie' Incident That Left Her Injured: Husband Alleges Loss Of Wife's 'Care, Comfort And Support'

A couple is pursuing legal action against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts DIS  due to an injury sustained on a water slide at Typhoon Lagoon water park.

As USA Today reported, Emma McGuinness suffered an injurious wedgie while riding the Humunga Kowabunga water slide in October 2019. The lawsuit, filed in Orange County, Florida, details that McGuinness was visiting Walt Disney World with her family when the incident occurred.

The lawsuit alleges that the high-speed, 214-foot downhill slide caused McGuinness’ clothing to become painfully lodged between her legs and forced water violently into her body. The resulting injuries were severe enough to require ambulance transportation to a local hospital and subsequent transfer for gynecological repairs.

The couple is seeking over $50,000 in damages, excluding interest and costs. According to the lawsuit, Disney Parks failed to provide patrons with protective clothing or equipment, adequately warn about the slide’s risks, or sufficiently maintain the slide to prevent riders from becoming airborne.

The complaint also highlights the heightened risk for women due to the type of swimwear typically worn and their particular anatomy. The aftermath of the incident has reportedly caused McGuinness enduring pain, mental anguish, and financial loss, while Edward McGuinness alleges the loss of his wife’s “care, comfort, and support.”
