Positive Outlook For Weed Legalization In Germany's Legislature & More Global Marijuana Updates

Proposed Amendments To Block Marijuana Legalization Fail In Germany

Prospects for a measure that seeks to legalize marijuana in Germany are good as it advances to the country's legislature.

On Friday, the cannabis legalization measure, approved by Germany's cabinet in mid-August, was brought up in the Bundesrat (or Federal Council), one of two main bodies of the country's legislature.

The body's members, representing individual states, proposed several amendments that sought to block the measure. However, those attempts failed, reported Marijuana Moment, citing The Legal Tribune Online. Others were supported, like the one that claimed a "structural enforcement deficit" in the measure.

The legalization proposal received a total of 80 revision recommendations from the committees of the Bundesrat.

The federal government is expected to respond to the Bundesrat's comments and send the measure to the Bundestag, consisting of elected lawmakers.

How Canadian Cannabis Companies Scored Big With Federal Funding

Nearly two dozen Canadian cannabis companies have cashed in over CA$3 million ($2.2 million) of federal funding over the past year, reported Marijuana Business Daily, citing the government's Grants and Contributions portal.

Furthermore, according to the analysis that considered only funding sent to for-profit corporations, dozens of cannabis firms have received approximately CA$ 32.8 million worth of funding from federal government organizations as part of programs created to support businesses in the space. Most of that sum is utilized to fund research-related activities.

Meanwhile, licensed cannabis producers are now permitted to supply authorized stores in British Columbia with product samples for a minimal charge aimed at assisting them in promoting their products.

According to a recent press release from British Columbia's government, the move comes on the heels of Alberta's decision to make a similar policy change.
