Chris Christie Calls GOP Rival Vivek Ramaswamy 'Practically Trump's Wingman': 'What The Hell Are You Doing Running?'

GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie hit out at fellow candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, accusing him of being too soft on former President Donald Trump.

What Happened: Christie, in a recent Fox News interview, took issue with Ramaswamy’s lack of criticism toward Trump, labeling the latter as “practically his wingman.”

“How do you run against someone and not talk about them? I look at what Vivek does here. He's practically [Trump's] wingman,” Christie said.

Christie suggested that Ramaswamy should withdraw from the race and endorse Trump. "He says he's the greatest president of the 21st century. Well, if he is, what the hell are you doing running? You should just drop out and endorse Donald Trump for reelection, which I think is essentially what he's doing," Christie added.

"I think he's auditioning for a cabinet position if Donald Trump were ever to become president again."

Why It Matters: The latest Morning Consult poll showed Trump leading the 2024 GOP presidential primary race with a significant 48-point lead over his closest opponent. Christie, on the other hand, polled 3%, while Ramaswamy, along with former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, came in at 7%.

While most candidates have been hesitant to criticize Trump, Christie has emerged as a vocal critic, referring to Trump as a “four-time loser” referencing the losses of the Senate and governorships in 2022, the special Senate election in 2021, the White House in 2020, and the House in 2018.

“I have no grievance against him personally. I have a grievance against what he's done to our party. He's been a four-time loser,” Christie stated.

“He is losing for our party and it leads to these Biden policies.”

A planned head-to-head debate between Christie and Ramaswamy was canceled after the Republican National Committee threatened that if candidates proceeded with joint Fox appearances, they would be barred from future committee-sanctioned debates.
