Elon Musk Is Still Not Convinced About Aliens, Jokes 'We Are The Aliens'

Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk is still not convinced that aliens exist, stating that he has seen "no evidence" of aliens yet. He joked that as far as he could tell, "we are the aliens".

What Happened: The recent spurt in conversations about aliens has everyone intrigued, but Musk believes that any evidence does not back these claims.

Appearing via a video link at the 74th International Astronautical Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Oct. 5, Musk discussed his ambition to land on Mars and take humanity one step closer to becoming a space-faring civilization.

Earlier in an interview with former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, Musk said he would know of aliens' existence since he is "very familiar with space stuff".

"A lot of people ask me, you know, where are the aliens? And I think if anyone would know about aliens on Earth it would probably be me," he told Carlson, adding that he would "immediately tweet it out" if there were any evidence.

Earlier this year, he joked that he keeps telling people he is an alien, but nobody believes him.

Musk is also skeptical of the alien talk for another reason: he thinks that "pulling out an alien" is the fastest way to increase the defense budget.

Why It Matters: There has been a recent uptick in discussions about aliens on social media platforms. NASA released a report in September stating that they have not seen any evidence yet about aliens.

The space agency's report was released days after Mexican legislators held a hearing on unidentified flying objects (UFOs). They were shown alleged alien corpses by journalist Jaime Maussan.

"This tiny candle of consciousness that is humanity is all that exists in a vast darkness, and we should do everything we can to ensure that the candle does not go out," Musk said.
