Former President Donald Trump publicly backed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for the position of House Speaker.
What Happened: Trump voiced his support for the Ohio Republican on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday.
He lauded Jordan’s political performance and his earlier achievements in college wrestling, expressing, “He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Jordan, a known Trump ally and one of the top GOP lawmakers probing President Joe Biden, is one of the most conservative members who could possibly become the next speaker.

Jordan, a co-founder of the conservative Freedom Caucus, has expressed optimism about his chances of unifying the divided Republican conference. With Trump’s endorsement, Jordan’s path to speakership might become less bumpy, particularly after the recent removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the position.
Why It Matters: This endorsement comes amid speculations about Trump visiting Capitol Hill next week and his potential short-term speakership if circumstances demand.
Jordan’s candidacy has been a topic of debate within political circles. Earlier this week, former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) had criticized Jordan’s intention to run for the speakership, labeling him as “the worst pick for the Speaker of the House.”
Meanwhile, Jordan on Thursday declared his readiness to collaborate with the White House if he is elected as the Speaker of the House. “If I get the votes and we get the privilege of being speaker…we'll deal with them," he said.
