Ex-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) criticized President Joe Biden’s barbecue event amidst the ongoing conflict in Israel, urging the administration to take more decisive action.
As reported by Fox News, McCarthy expressed frustration over a White House barbecue event held by President Biden’s staff on Sunday. This comes as Israel struggles against attacks by the Hamas group.
“To the president, turn off the barbecue and speak to the American people to be the leader the world is looking for,” he urged.
He also proposed a “five-point plan” to support Israel, highlighting the need to locate and identify American hostages and freeze the $6 billion released to Iran.

In response, the White House issued a statement defending Biden’s consistent support for Israel and explaining the barbecue event was a long-scheduled occasion to thank the non-political staff at the White House.
McCarthy, who was recently ousted as the Speaker of the House, also condemned progressive House members, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), indirectly for their controversial statements about Israel.
McCarthy’s comments came amid a GOP scramble to fill the House speaker vacancy and the escalating war in Israel.
