Dinner and opera make for a perfect evening of pampering for both the senses and the soul.

For all those cannasseurs out there who want a night to remember, Detroit's Apotheculture Club is offering a weed-infused four-course dinner followed by a trip to the Detroit Opera House or Detroit Public Theatre (DPT).

"Classical music is such a good pairing with cannabis," James Blaszko, one of the four minds behind the Detroit cannabis club, told Detroit Metro Times' Randiah Camille Green. "At an opera, these arias are like eight minutes long, so cannabis enables the suspension of time in a way that is so complimentary… You can lean into some more tender, simple moments than the kind of [rapid] TikTok pace that we all go through every day."

Accompanying Blaszko, stage director from Harlem N.Y., in providing their guests with a night of cannabis and performance art, theater and opera are Detroit cannabis chefs Enid Parham (aka Lucky Pistil), Jacob Lewkow and Ben Holbrook.

What's Next?

The group's third event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct.21. Those willing to set aside $200 for a ticket can enjoy a dinner at a private location followed by a Dance Theatre of Harlem performance at the Detroit Opera.

Blaszko, who produced Liza Jessie Peterson's one-woman show, The Peculiar Patriot as it made its way to the DPT along with Xerxes at the Detroit Opera in March, said he's working on bringing more people who were formerly incarcerated on cannabis charges to the opera house or theater.

"As a cultural worker, that's my mission to invite them to that space in a way that they are enthusiastic about," Blaszko said. "These aren't people that are trying weed for the first time. These are people who are trying the live arts experience for the first time."

Recreational cannabis sales kicked off in Detroit in January. House of Dank was the first medical marijuana shop to begin selling adult-use weed products in Michigan's largest city and was followed several hours later by DaCut.
