Apple Inc.’s AAPL streaming service is reportedly in the running to host Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” film, as it competes with other behemoths, including Netflix Inc. NFLX and Walt Disney Co’s DIS Disney+ for exclusive rights to the highly-anticipated concert footage.

What Happened: The buzz around Swift’s “Eras Tour” has reached a fever pitch since the film’s release at AMC Theaters on Oct. 12. The film reportedly had a brilliant opening weekend at the box office, with domestic ticket sales surpassing $95 million.

Now, there’s heightened anticipation surrounding which streaming service will secure the exclusive rights to the concert film, and Apple TV+ has emerged as a serious contender, reported AppleInsider.

Leveraging its extensive background in video streaming and music through Apple Music, the tech giant is well-positioned to win the rights to “Eras Tour.” Competitors like Netflix and Disney+ don’t share this strategic advantage.

Apple’s history with the “Back To December” artist could also be pivotal. The tech giant’s willingness to backtrack on royalty issues during Swift’s public feud in 2015 demonstrates a history of collaboration and compromise, strengthening Cupertino’s case for hosting the “Eras Tour” film.

Nevertheless, the competition remains fierce.

Netflix, the streaming industry’s Goliath, has previously streamed Swift’s “Reputation Stadium Tour” and the documentary “Miss Americana.”

Similarly, Disney+ showcased Swift’s “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions” documentary film and plans to distribute her feature film directorial debut.

Amazon Inc.’s AMZN Prime Video is no slouch either, having featured Swift in a headlining performance during Amazon Prime Day in 2019.

With Jan. 12, 2024, serving as the potential streaming debut date, all eyes are on the impending announcement, eager to see which giant will claim the prize, the report noted.

Why It’s Important: Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film has broken records, surpassing Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never,” which made $73 million, and Miley Cyrus’ “Best of Both Worlds,” which opened at $31.1 million.

It also had the most extensive release for a concert film ever, showing in over 3,850 theaters when it first came out.
