Ming-Chi Kuo Says AirTag 2 Mass Production Might Get Pushed To 2025: Here's Everything We Know

Tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now reported a potential delay in the mass production of Apple Inc.’s AAPL AirTag 2 until 2025.

What Happened: Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, has raised concerns about the production timeline for AirTag 2.

Initially, there were speculations of the second-generation AirTag going into mass production by the fourth quarter of 2024. However, Kuo’s latest insight indicates a shift in this schedule, possibly pushing mass production back to 2025.

Kuo’s prediction aligns with a broader discussion surrounding the future of AirTag technology. Previously, it was reported that the next iteration of AirTags may integrate the Ultra Wideband or UWB technology found in iPhone 15 models.

In August this year, Kuo reported that AirTag will integrate with the Vision Pro headset as part of the spatial computing ecosystem. However, it’s not clear exactly how this will work yet.

Why It’s Important: Apple’s AirTags, first introduced in April 2021, have garnered significant popularity as a device meant to assist users in finding their personal items

However, concerns have surfaced regarding the misuse of AirTags for stalking, leading to a class action lawsuit in California

Victims have alleged that the affordability (only $29) and wide coverage of iPhones make AirTags an attractive tool for stalkers

Apple has implemented an alert system to notify individuals of an unknown AirTag tracking them, but victims argue it doesn’t provide adequate protection.

Notably, Google has launched a feature for Android users to detect unknown trackers.
