President Joe Biden took a jab at Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) after the latter’s unsuccessful attempt to secure the House speakership.
What Happened: Biden, while at a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., commented on Jordan’s failure to garner the majority of votes needed to win the Speaker’s gavel. “He just got his rear end kicked,” said the President, The Hill reported.
Despite three votes, Jordan failed to secure the speakership, leading to a secret ballot held by the Republican conference to find an alternative candidate. Over 110 House Republicans voted in favor of a different nominee.

Jordan, a staunch supporter of former President Trump, was among those who backed the overturning of the 2020 election results. However, he has yet to confirm Biden’s win as legitimate.
Why It Matters: Since the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the Speaker role, the House has been without a Speaker for over two weeks. Both Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Jordan were nominated by the conference but failed to get enough support. The House Republicans are considering different options for the position, with a forum scheduled for next week.
While Biden and his team have mainly stayed out of the chaos, they have recently begun highlighting the dysfunction within the House GOP, arguing that voters will reward Biden’s focus on public priorities amidst the opposing party’s internal disputes.
