Elon Musk’s Tesla, Inc. TSLA vehicles have emerged as the least stolen cars in the United States, with GPS tracking playing a major role.
As per a report by Electrek, GPS tracking, a standard feature in all Tesla cars, has significantly deterred thefts. Not only have the numbers of stolen Tesla vehicles been low, but the efficient GPS tracking has also ensured quick recovery when these incidents occur.
The data comes from a report by the Highway Loss Data Institute, backed by the insurance industry, which analyzed over 40 million vehicles and 18,000 theft claims. The report revealed that Tesla cars, specifically the Model 3 and Model Y, topped the list of least stolen vehicles.
While Tesla thefts are rare in the U.S., Europe has seen a string of Tesla thefts via relay attacks. However, Tesla has responded by introducing additional layers of security, including an improved key fob cryptography and an optional "PIN to Drive" feature.
