Zinger Key Points
- Christian McCaffrey has scored a touchdown in 16 straight NFL games.
- The San Francisco 49ers have a 5-2 record with McCaffrey a big reason why.
Death. Taxes. Christian McCaffrey scoring a touchdown. The San Francisco 49ers running back is one of the reasons the team is among the best in the league in 2023 and started the season as a favorite to win Super Bowl LVIII.
While the 49ers lost their game Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, McCaffrey made NFL history.
What Happened: Sports bettors have many options when betting NFL games, including the spread, the over/under, player props, and even sportsbook props like all teams scoring a field goal.
Growing in popularity among sports bettors for player props is the anytime touchdown bet, which cashes out if that player scores a touchdown.
One of the most popular bets is McCaffrey, who has scored touchdowns at will since being traded to the 49ers during the 2022 season.
While the 49ers lost to the Vikings 22-17 in the Monday Night Football game that aired on Walt Disney Co. DIS-owned ESPN and ABC, McCaffrey scored a rushing touchdown and kept his streak alive.
McCaffrey has now scored a touchdown (either rushing or receiving) in 16 straight NFL games, including the 2022 NFL Playoffs. This set a new record for the most consecutive games including playoffs with a touchdown from scrimmage.
Going forward, McCaffrey could continue to set records as Baltimore Colts running back Lenny Moore holds the record for 17 consecutive games including playoffs with a touchdown of any kind. McCaffrey also has touchdowns in 13 straight regular season games, which is tied for third and trails LaDainian Tomlinson at 18.
Given his prominence of finding the endzone, bets on McCaffrey touchdowns have come with lower payouts in recent weeks, often listed in the -150 to -200 range, which would turn a $100 bet into a profit of $66.67 or $50 respectively.
For Monday night, some sportsbooks even had McCaffrey touchdown listed under -200.
DraftKings Inc DKNG did the math for the question that many may be having some bet regrets about.
A tweet from DraftKings said that an initial $10 bet on McCaffrey to score a touchdown in the December 2022 game that started the streak and the winnings rolled into the next game would now be worth $48,089.15.
This marks a huge return for anyone confident in McCaffrey keeping the streak and scoring another touchdown. The tough question for bettors is to decide when the streak will end and cash out the winnings.

What’s Next: With his record-breaking streak and strong stats, McCaffrey emerged as one of the favorites to win the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
In the 2023 NFL season, McCaffrey has 125 rushes for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. McCaffrey also has 26 receptions for 228 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
Interestingly enough, the 11 total scrimmage touchdowns for McCaffrey are more than six NFL teams have scored in all their games through week 7.
The teams with fewer touchdowns than McCaffrey are the Tennessee Titans (8), New York Giants (8), New York Jets (9), Cincinnati Bengals (10), Pittsburgh Steelers (10) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10).
At DraftKings, McCaffrey is listed with odds of +2,000 to win the 2023 NFL MVP Award, ranking eighth. McCaffrey is the only non-quarterback to be ranked in the top 10 at the sportsbook. The award has been given to quarterbacks in recent history, with the last non-quarterback winner in 2012.
McCaffrey is listed with the second-best odds to win the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award, which in recent years has gone to a non-quarterback. McCaffrey is listed at +140 and trails only wide receiver Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins at +125.
The 49ers are listed as the second favorite to win the Super Bowl at +475, trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs at +450. The 49ers were fourth to start the season with odds of +1,000.
