Toyota Unveils 1,000 KM Range Lexus EV Concept, Aims To Hit Roads In 2026

Toyota Motor Corp's TM Lexus has debuted the next-generation Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) concept car LF-ZC, along with the BEV flagship concept model LF-ZL.

This is a part of the forthcoming next-generation Lexus BEV lineup, due for market launch in 2026 and aligns with Toyota's strategic shift towards electric vehicles (EVs), emphasizing battery innovations.

The unveiled LF-ZC vehicle, presented at the Japan Mobility Show, capitalizes on advanced "prismatic, high-performance" batteries. 

These new batteries promise to double the range of conventional EVs, marking a milestone of nearly 1,000 kilometers or 620 miles, accordimng to a report from Reuters.

"The key to achieving these breakthroughs is parts minimalization and reduction across the board, including smaller, more efficient batteries with more power and more range," noted Toyota Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries during the car's introduction.

Earlier in June, Toyota, had laid out its plans to enhance its battery EV footprint and lithium-ion batteries, characterized by their extended lifespan and swift charging capabilities.

Furthermore, the automaker has also been rectifying durability issues associated with solid-state batteries. Toyota envisions the commercial release of vehicles powered by these state-of-the-art batteries between 2027 and 2028.

On the design front, the sleek LF-ZC features a vast cockpit fortified with a sophisticated AI system Toyota calls "Butler." This technology identifies and adapts to driver preferences, some of which might even be subconscious, thereby enhancing the driving experience.

Toyota has affirmed that by 2035, battery EVs will represent the entirety of global sales for its luxury Lexus brand.
