Trump's Public Commentary Halted Again By Gag Order In Election Case

In the ongoing legal proceedings regarding former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss, a federal judge has reinstated a previously lifted gag order on Trump.

What Happened: According to a recent report by Reuters, United States District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled against Trump’s request for a stay of the gag order pending appeal. The order, now back in effect, prohibits Trump from making any public disparaging remarks against the special counsel and potential witnesses involved in his case regarding attempts to overturn his election loss.

The Department of Justice initially suggested the gag order, which Judge Chutkan enforced, only to temporarily lift it on October 20 following an appeal from Trump’s legal representatives. However, the judge reversed this decision on Sunday according to the court’s docket.

In the past, Trump has used defamatory language against Special Counsel Jack Smith, referring to him as a “thug” and a “deranged lunatic.” Amidst four ongoing criminal cases, Trump has consistently insulted prosecutors, including the New York State Attorney who brought civil fraud charges against him.

Trump maintains his innocence against the charges of illegal interference with the vote count and obstruction of Congress’s certification of his 2020 defeat to Democrat Joe Biden.
