Stellantis' Chrysler Recalls Nearly 100K SUVs Over Faulty Seatbelts

Stellantis NV STLA brand Chrysler has recalled over 97,000 model year 2022-24 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer SUV vehicles, citing issues with seat belts.

What Happened: The third-row seat belts in these vehicles might not allow occupants to fasten the seat belt to the buckle, posing a risk to passengers in case of a crash.

As for a solution, the company will replace the seat belt buckle free of charge to the customer. In case customers have spent money to repair the issue, the company would reimburse it on receiving the original receipt or proof of payment, it said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Why It Matters: As per NHTSA data, Chrysler has issued 40 recalls this year affecting over 2.5 million vehicles, second only to Ford Motor Co. F which has issued 48 recalls affecting 5.4 million vehicles.

The third of the “Detroit Big Three,” General Motors Co. GM, has issued only 19 recalls in comparison.
