Fiction Profits Academy's Strategy To Overcome Common Misconceptions And Hurdles In Ebook Publishing

Anyone can have a good career selling ebooks on Amazon. So says Karla Marie, founder of Fiction Profits Academy. Marie doesn’t consider herself a creative or tech-savvy person, and she says she can teach other women to work for themselves in this business as well.

“I strongly believe there’s nothing in me that is unique. It all stemmed from my belief in myself and then me taking inspired action from that place,” Karla says. “None of that would have happened if I didn’t believe. This was something amazing that was possible for me. And for you. I really work hard to inspire in my students the importance of cultivating a concept for themselves as a successful person.”

Fiction Profits Academy is a pioneering online platform dedicated to teaching individuals the art and business of profiting from fiction writing, without having to be a creative or technical person. With a primary focus on Amazon Kindle publishing, the academy breaks down the barriers many face when considering writing, emphasizing that one doesn’t need to be a writer, an author, or a designer to succeed with the FPA system.

Marie started out using a ghostwriter to compose the books she wanted to sell. She did the research on what topics and genres sold best as ebooks on Amazon. She studied what made the high-selling ebooks sell. And she made a good living at it.

Then she began to get requests from other people looking for success selling ebooks on Amazon. Fiction Profits Academy came out of that small coaching business in 2015 and wants to change the lives of 10,000 women in 2024. And besides not being creative or tech-savvy, they don’t have to be extroverted salespeople, either.

“I don’t care about social media. I’m a total introvert and was able to do this,” Karla says. “What I’ve noticed is that there’s this idea, this message societally, that women kind of lose value as they get older. ‘Okay, you’re past the age where you’re going be having kids, so you don’t have much value anymore.’”

She’s heard all the arguments against taking a chance on a new, exciting career. “I’m too old.” Or “I have young children.” And all the ones previously mentioned here.

“I work on squashing those objections. This kind of business doesn’t discriminate,” Karla says. “You can be any age, from any background. We have lots of students who are women, obviously lots of women, lots of students who have English as a second language. And so it’s an amazing opportunity.”

With Fiction Profits Academy, no one has to take years to do the research that Marie did when she started out. Academy coaches work closely with students to help them learn the best information and techniques that can bring them success.

“I know for a fact that we take care of our students at a level that no other program does. When people come in to learn, we really, truly care about the results they get,” Karla says. “There’s this vibe that people are seen and heard and understood and taken care of. And they are! That goes a long way to help students get results and feel safe in the program. You know, with other online programs, most just treat you like a number, like no one really cares about you.”

Beginning students have a lot to learn, and they get help doing that. More advanced students get one-on-one coaching, which really helps once they’ve mastered the basics.

“We’re here to help and support people along the whole way. And so that is definitely the first thing that comes to mind for me. What sets us apart is the actual experience of the student. And there’s no other course that teaches people to be publishing fiction the way we do too.”

Karla calls it an “ecosystem of teaching and support” and a system that works for both students and coaches.

“What we’ve got is a team of coaches curated and put together who are often homegrown students who’ve been through the course and created a good amount of income from it,” Karla Marie says. “And they also want to give back to the community. So we’ve got a farm system like they have in baseball with AAA teams where they learn and then bring those people up into the majors, right? And we’ve got this genuinely close-knit support system here which you simply do not get anywhere else.”

With a diverse team spread out globally, FPA coaches and staff operate remotely yet maintain a strong cohesive approach to their teaching methods to work closely with students.
