Donald Trump Says At Florida Rally That He'll Conduct The 'Largest Domestic Deportation in American History' If Re-elected

Former President Donald Trump proposed a stringent immigration plan during a rally in Florida, not far away from the location of the third GOP primary debate.

What Happened: Trump, during his speech, reiterated his strong stance on immigration issues.

He promised to implement an expanded travel ban, reminiscent of his controversial “Trump travel ban” on Muslim-majority countries during his presidency, to prevent potential terrorist attacks in the U.S..

"Here in the United States, I implemented a strong, powerful, really incredible travel ban — they call it the Trump travel ban and I said that's OK if you want to do that — to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of our country," Trump told the crowd gathered in Hialeah.

He further pledged to initiate the “largest domestic deportation operation in American history” if he were to be re-elected.

Why It Matters: This came after an earlier report by Axios had surfaced that Trump was in the process of forming an aggressive immigration plan for a potential 2024 term. 

The plan includes screening immigrants for “Marxist” ideologies, forming a naval blockade against drug smugglers, and possibly designating drug cartels as “unlawful enemy combatants.”

Other elements of the plan include the completion of the border wall, which was halted by President Joe Biden, and the swift deportation of migrant criminals. Trump is also considering ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants.
