Tesla CEO Elon Musk Joins Fans In Mocking XPeng For 'Copying' Its UI

Billionaire CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday joined other Tesla Inc TSLA enthusiasts in noting the increased similarity between Chinese EV maker XPeng Inc‘s XPEV latest UI visualization with Tesla’s full self-driving (FSD) UI.

What Happened: Ray, a Tesla enthusiast, shared a video of XPeng’s center screen with the caption, “Does XPeng's latest UI visualization look familiar to you?” Other X users couldn’t help but note the increased likeliness between the user interface and that of Tesla’s FSD.

“Exact replica of $TSLA,” a user wrote.

“No. It's looks very original and they 100% didn't copy Tesla,” another joked.

“All copies show who the true leader is,” yet another added.

Musk himself joined other fans and responded to the video with a ‘thinking face’ emoji.

Why It Matters: Tesla enthusiasts have often flagged design similarities between Tesla and XPeng. This includes similarities in vehicle features as well as choice of products, including a bipedal robot to counter Tesla’s humanoid bot Optimus.

Interestingly, Tesla itself had sued one of its former engineers in 2019 for copying the source code of its Autopilot program before joining the U.S. unit of XPeng. The case was later settled in 2021.
