General Motors Integrates Electric Delivery Startup Brightdrop Amid Drive Toward All-Electric Future

General Motors GM has announced that it will be integrating electric delivery startup BrightDrop into its operations. This move aims to offer a unified point of contact for fleet customers.

The announcement of this integration was made on Wednesday and is seen as a crucial step in GM’s transition towards a completely electric future. BrightDrop, which was established in January 2021, has quickly become a significant player in the commercial electric vehicle (EV) sector.

“BrightDrop was born in GM's Innovation Lab and spent the last three years as a wholly owned subsidiary. That structure allowed BrightDrop to operate with the agility and innovation of a tech startup and benefit from GM's deep manufacturing expertise,” the company stated.

GM has plans to continue ramping up the production of BrightDrop Zevo, which is expected to be resumed in the spring of 2024. This will be further supported by the establishment of a new battery module factory in Canada.

The electric delivery vans of BrightDrop, namely the Zevo 600 and Zevo 400, will continue to be a part of GM Envolve’s commercial fleet offerings. In addition to this, GM will be consolidating all commercial digital solutions, including BrightDrop Core, under its own software and services organization.

GM remains committed to promoting an all-electric future that is inclusive and accessible to all, powered by its advanced Ultium battery platform.
