Apple Challenges European Commission In Legal Battle Over Digital Markets Act: Report

Apple Inc AAPL has reportedly initiated legal action contesting decisions made by the European Commission under the newly implemented Digital Markets Act. 

This legislation targets 22 "gatekeeper" services provided by six tech giants, including Apple, Reuters reports.

The law aims to enhance competition by requiring interoperability of messaging apps and enabling users to choose pre-installed apps on their devices. 

While specific details of Apple's challenge remain undisclosed, it will likely focus on including its App Store in the gatekeeper list. 

Other tech companies like Meta Platforms Inc META and TikTok have also filed appeals disputing their services' inclusion in the Digital Markets Act, as per the report.

Microsoft Corp MSFT and Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL Google have decided not to contest the European Union regulation.

Google has the highest number of services, including its Android operating system, maps, and search, likely to face more stringent rules under the DMA.
