There are few things more frustrating than attempting to break through the high-alert, triple layers of thick plastic packaging covering the anti-inflammatory pills you’re using to help with the swollen joints you've developed after years of trying to open those tiny bottles.
In this Canadian man’s case, the offending container that held a cannabis product kept him struggling for nearly an hour. His ordeal drove him to TikTok (@benfromthesouth) where he shared his frustration.
“Whoever makes the packaging in Ontario for cannabis products, what are you doing?” said Ben in the TikTok video that garnered over a half-million views.
“Why are you not working for the U.S navy or some prison system? You are making some s** that is unbreakable.”
He goes on to say that no one would ever break out of prison again if the same manufacturers of cannabis containers were overseeing the jail systems.
“I spent 45 minutes trying to open up a container.”
All jokes aside, Ben said it’s a real conversation that needs to be had.
“I think it’s a huge problem, lots of extra plastic used, never good instructions for packages and not very friendly for consumers with difficulties with their hands that are trying to up their medicine,” he told Now Toronto.
The Arthritis Society Canada (ASC) could not agree more.
“For some people living with arthritis, medical cannabis helps to manage their condition. Opening products including medications such as medical cannabis can be a challenge and we encourage companies and governments to take this into consideration as they design products and packaging,” the ASC said in an email statement to Now Toronto.
The ASC also noted that affected patients should be involved and considered in discussions with the government on how to make products accessible and safe.
