Elon Musk Has Called X 'Best Source Of Truth' Courtesy Community Notes Feature — But He Might Have Forgotten About This Month-Old Error

Over a month ago, Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) erroneously noted a graphic video shared by Donald Trump Jr. and faced massive flak. Still, the tech billionaire appears to have forgotten all about that fiasco as he continues to promote his social media platform as the “best source of truth” courtesy of its Community Notes feature.

What Happened: On Monday, Musk shared several posts on his timeline where Community Notes had apparently corrected “misleading” posts by users, including one by Alex Soros, chair of Open Society Foundations.

In one such post, Musk said that people who cannot deal with the truth will leave his social media platform because of Community Notes. However, more and more people will realize that X is the best place to find real facts.

The tech mogul said this will surge X’s user base as people start ditching “less dependable information sources.”

In the comment section, many supported Musk’s theory and approved X’s Community Notes feature, which was once called Birdwatch.

However, not long ago, in October this year, the same feature got major backlash from users and experts when it mistakenly flagged a video shared by Trump Jr. The video showcased Hamas fighters attacking Israeli citizens.

Moreover, Musk’s Community Notes admitted in April this year that some posts with “false claims” may not be flagged because the system is limited. However, since then, X has expanded its Community Notes team.

Why It’s Important: Musk re-introduced Birdwatch and Community Notes under his leadership in December last year. The tech billionaire’s social media platform has been accused of being rampant with misinformation and disinformation since being bought by him for a whopping $44 billion.

However, Musk continues to praise the feature repeatedly and has previously said, “The intent is for this site to be fair & impartial, favoring no party, seeking only the least wrong truth.”
