Meta's Doja Cat Concert: Could 'Perfect Way For Fans' To Feel Like They're In The Front Row Boost VR Headset Sales?

Zinger Key Points
  • Meta Platforms has several virtual reality headsets available to consumers.
  • Virtual concerts could be a way for virtual reality headset companies to show off their products and capabilities.

Well-known musician Doja Cat is being tasked with helping demonstrate the real-life capabilities of the Quest virtual reality headsets from Meta Platforms META, which includes the recently unveiled Meta Quest 3.

What Happened: In recent years, the worlds of music, virtual reality and the metaverse have collided with virtual concerts happening from top artists like Lil Nas X, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Marshmello and more.

Video game Roblox from Roblox Corporation RBLX and Fortnite from Tencent Holdings TCEHY owned Epic Games have hosted virtual concerts for fans and also offered exclusive songs and perks for those who tune in.

Meta Platforms is ready to get more involved with virtual concerts thanks to an upcoming immersive concert experience from Doja Cat.

"Doja Cat: The Scarlet Tour in VR" was filmed during a Detroit date on the recently completed North American leg of the singer's "Scarlet" arena tour, as reported by Variety.

The upcoming VR concert is being hosted by Diamond Bros and Meta and is said to be a "trilling spectacle that blends reality and imagination, complete with cutting edge visuals and beats."

The concert will premiere in virtual reality on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET exclusively in Meta Horizon Worlds' Music Valley. Those who can't attend live can catch replays for several weeks in Meta Horizon Worlds.

"Taking it from an idea to real life and sharing that with my fans at arenas was surreal and rewarding. To now be able to share the live show through VR with Meta and The Diamond Bros for ‘Doja Cat: The Scarlet Tour in VR' is a perfect way for fans who did not get to come to a show to feel like they did," Doja Cat said.

Meta previously launched a VR concert experience called "No Place Like Home" with singer Jack Harlow.

Why It's Important: Meta Horizons Worlds' Music Valley is available for Meta Quest VR headset owners, which could provide a lift in attention to the Meta Platforms virtual reality headsets.

As Meta focuses more on virtual concerts and offers additional features for Quest VR headset users, it braces for competition in the virtual reality headset market from Apple Inc AAPL.

The Vision Pro headset from Apple will be released on Feb. 2.

Meta Platforms has invested heavily in growing its metaverse aspirations, and its virtual headsets are a big key to the sector. With increased competition, Meta's exclusive music features could help keep current customers engaged and keep them from switching to a competitor like Apple.
