Unfazed by adverse weather conditions, former President Donald Trump has urged his supporters to show up and vote in the Iowa caucus.

What Happened: Trump made a final appeal to his followers not to “sit home” despite severe blizzards causing the cancellation of three out of his four planned rallies. In a packed Simpson College auditorium, he insisted that the storm was not an obstacle, reported USA Today.

“You can’t sit home,” said Trump.” “If you’re sick as a dog … even if you vote and then pass away, it’s worth it,” said the former president, according to the report.

Endorsements from celebrities and Congress members were part of Trump’s push for a strong showing in Iowa. He notably received backing from Senator Marco Rubio, who was once a critic of Trump.

Trump also visited volunteers at Hotel Fort Des Moines, donning a “caucus captain” hat from his campaign. Even with his lead in the polls, he expressed doubts about achieving 50% of the vote on Caucus Day, attributing this projection to the media and analysts.

Why It Matters: Despite the adverse weather, Trump remained determined to attend the Iowa caucus, considering his supporters’ dedication as a potential advantage. The latest poll by NBC News/Des Moines Register showed Trump leading the GOP field with 48%, while former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley jumped to second place with 20% support.

However, Iowa Rep. Steven Holt highlighted anomalies in opinion polls, suggesting that the polls primarily sought opinions on Trump, Haley, or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, while businessman Vivek Ramaswamy was not presented as an option. A comment by Tesla CEO Elon Musk supported Holt’s observation.
