Most people incorrectly assume that it’s difficult to get into cybersecurity. You don’t need a bachelor’s degree to get a high-paying job in the field, she said, adding most jobs require a high school education and an online training course.

Gevelber founded Grow with Google in 2017, which provides classes on cybersecurity and data analytics. Anyone can complete the cybersecurity certificate in about three months and it only costs $49 per month, she said.

Although different jobs come with different day-to-day responsibilities, almost all of them involve the same skills including, assessing risk, troubleshooting problems, monitoring threats and working within an organization’s IT infrastructure, Gevelber said.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for cybersecurity analysts is $112,000 and the median salary for cybersecurity managers is about $164,000. There are also lots of remote opportunities in demand that pay up to $200,000 per year.

“Cybersecurity is an exciting field with a lot of growth opportunities. Companies just can't fill these jobs fast enough,” Gevelber said.
