Ex-Trump Aide Warns Of 'Dirty' Tactics Against Biden Over Classified Documents: 'We're Not Living In An Era Of Goodwill In Politics'

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former White House communications director for Donald Trump, has warned about potential Republican tactics against Joe Biden over the special counsel’s report on Biden’s retention of classified documents.

What Happened: Griffin, in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, predicted that Trump and the Republicans would exploit the report to attack Biden’s age and mental acuity, reported HuffPost on Friday. The report, released by Robert Hur on Thursday, revealed that Biden had knowingly retained highly classified information, though no criminal charges were recommended.

Griffin acknowledged that Trump and Biden have concerns about their mental acuity. Still, she emphasized that the GOP’s narrative of Biden being too old for the job is his “single greatest vulnerability” for reelection in November.

“If I'm writing the ads for the Trump team, they're going to say, ‘We're more or less told that Joe Biden would not be mentally competent to sit trial in the case, had this gone to trial,'” Griffin said.

“Now it wasn't, he was exonerated, but we're not living in an era of goodwill in politics where we could expect the Republican side to take the high ground. They're gonna play dirty here.”

Griffin also expressed doubt about Biden’s readiness to counter these attacks effectively.

Why It Matters: Biden’s mental acuity has been a subject of debate in recent weeks. Biden mistakenly referred to the leader of Egypt as the “president of Mexico” during a press conference.

This incident added to the concerns raised earlier in the week when Biden recounted conversations with deceased European leaders, sparking fresh debate about his age and mental fitness. The special counsel’s report could potentially provide the ammunition for the GOP to intensify their attacks on Biden’s suitability for office.

Despite the special counsel’s report on Biden’s retention of classified documents, no criminal charges were filed. However, as Griffin points out, the report could still be used by the Republicans to question Biden’s age and mental fitness, potentially impacting his re-election chances.
