On Wednesday, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel criticized the appointment of Lara Trump to a senior role at the Republican National Committee (RNC) amid her father-in-law, Donald Trump‘s, ongoing legal battles.
What Happened: Kimmel, on his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” mocked the appointment of Lara Trump as co-chair of the RNC, where she would oversee the organization’s finances, reported HuffPost.
“He's trying to turn the Republican Party into a family business because his other family business is about to get shut down by the state of New York,” Kimmel said.
He highlighted Lara Trump’s credentials, noting her culinary school degree, personal trainer experience, and stint as a producer on “Inside Edition.” Kimmel also referenced her marriage to Eric Trump.
“The last time Trump endorsed a blonde this unqualified for office was when he endorsed himself,” Kimmel said.
Why It Matters: Lara Trump’s appointment to the RNC has raised eyebrows across the political spectrum. In a recent campaign event, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley suggested that this appointment is an attempt by Donald Trump to influence the upcoming election.
However, Lara Trump has been a staunch supporter of her father-in-law, even suggesting that the legal challenges faced by the former President in Georgia have only strengthened his chances in the 2024 presidential race.
