The 2024 NFL season kicks off on Wednesday, March 13, setting the stage for an exciting period of free agency and team trades. As these moves shake up team rosters, they’re also causing shifts in the Super Bowl LIX betting odds across sports betting platforms.
Here's a look at some of the biggest moves and how the Super Bowl LIX odds have changed.
What Happened: The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII to become the first team in 19 seasons to win back-to-back Super Bowls. The Chiefs remain one of the betting favorites to win a third-straight Super Bowl, a feat that has never happened in NFL history.
While the Chiefs have been relatively quiet in the post-Super Bowl period, the team did re-sign defensive lineman Chris Jones to keep one of their star defensive players from hitting free agency.
Other teams have been more active in the early days of free agency, as teams were able to negotiate with players beginning Monday and many verbal contracts have been signed ahead of Wednesday's start to the season.
Quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers were among the hot positions targeted in the early days of free agency. Here's a look at some of the key signings.
Some of the most notable acquisitions to date were QB Kirk Cousins with the Atlanta Falcons, RB Saquon Barkley with the Philadelphia Eagles and QB Russell Wilson with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cousins was one of the most coveted free agents among quarterbacks and is moving from the Minnesota Vikings to the Falcons. Cousins signed a four-year $180 million deal, which comes with some risks as he suffered an injury last season and is 35 years old. The Falcons have needed a franchise quarterback for many years and the deal is being positively received by analysts and sportsbooks.
Barkley makes the move from the Giants, where he has spent his entire NFL career, to the NFC East division rival Philadelphia Eagles. The move has boosted the Super Bowl odds for the Eagles.
Wilson moves on from the Denver Broncos and heads to the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal, which is seen as a strategic move for him before considering longer-term options in the next offseason .
