Microsoft Corp MSFT unveiled a custom Xbox Series X console inspired by Final Fantasy 14, a popular online game. It continues a tradition of releasing themed consoles for game and film launches.
But there's a twist: this special edition Xbox Series X is purely an art piece and does not function as a gaming console. The design mimics an Aetheryte Crystal from the game, marking its debut on the Xbox platform.

Although the custom console itself does not serve any functional purpose, the victor of the related contest will be awarded a fully operational Xbox Series X console, in addition to the Final Fantasy 14 Complete Collector's Edition and a one-year subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
This custom console release underscored a criticism surrounding the Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14: players need a Game Pass subscription in addition to the game's own subscription to access it.
This requirement contrasted with Sony Group Corp.'s SONY PlayStation and PC versions, which do not mandate an additional subscription beyond the game's own fee.
