The leaked specifications of Sony Group Corp.'s SONY PlayStation 5 Pro, corroborated by tech experts at Digital Foundry, reveal notable enhancements over the standard PS5.
The PS5 Pro features a CPU identical to the standard model but with a 'High CPU Frequency Mode', resulting in a 10% increase in speed. Its GPU offers significant improvements with 33.5 teraflops for faster rendering and higher quality ray tracing compared to the standard PS5's 10.28 teraflops.

Digital Foundry predicts that the PS5 Pro's enhanced capabilities, particularly in rendering, will benefit upcoming games like GTA 6, expected to be released in 2025.
Rich Leadbetter, an expert from Digital Foundry, suggests that the performance of GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro will likely be similar to that of the standard PS5 due to limitations in the PS5 Pro's CPU. He explains that if GTA 6 runs at 30 frames per second (fps) on the standard PS5, it will probably also run at 30fps on the PS5 Pro.
This is because the CPU, which handles simulation tasks in the game, doesn't see a significant improvement in the PS5 Pro. However, if GTA 6 were to include a 60fps option on the standard PS5, then it might run at 60fps on the PS5 Pro due to the higher performance demands.
Moreover, Digital Foundry anticipates that the PS5 Pro's superior rendering capabilities could upscale older PS5 games to 4K resolution through its proprietary upscaling technology.
Sony's history of releasing enhanced versions of its consoles, as seen with the PS4 Pro, supports analysts' predictions of a PS5 Pro launch later in 2024.
This move could help bolster Sony's sales figures, which have been adjusted downward for the current fiscal year, despite an increase in PS5 sales during the 2023 holiday season.
Additionally, Sony's decision not to release major PlayStation franchise games before April 2025, coupled with recent layoffs affecting its gaming business, indicates a period of strategic restructuring and adjustment within the company.
