Amidst the bustling election season in the United States, a recent survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of the Dutch seed bank, Royal Queen Seeds unveils a significant divergence between cannabis legislation and public opinion.
The study highlights strong support for the legalization of home cannabis cultivation, underlining health, safety and economic advantages.
According to the survey, a compelling 59% of Americans over 21 say they believe in the right to legally grow cannabis at home. This sentiment is even stronger among cannabis consumers, with 81% advocating for home cultivation rights.
Cultivation Over Purchase
The survey reveals a growing preference for home cultivation over purchasing, with 62% of cannabis consumers expressing a desire to grow their own cannabis. Notably, 34% of these growers prioritize home cultivation due to the perceived safety and quality it provides as compared to store-bought marijuana.
4/20 Cannabis Culture
The study sheds light on purchasing behaviors around 4/20, the most prominent cannabis sales day of the year. A significant 37% of Americans are open to buying cannabis seeds as gifts during this period, a sentiment that rises to 66% among cannabis consumers.
The Benefits Of Growing At Home
Growing cannabis at home is not just about legality, it's also about lifestyle. Survey respondents cite numerous benefits, including a sense of confidence (49%), joy (48%), pride (46%) and a deeper connection with nature (44%).
Additionally, 43% find home cultivation more cost-effective than buying retail, with 39% praising the superior quality of home-grown cannabis.
Overcoming Obstacles To Cultivation
Despite the enthusiasm, potential growers face challenges such as lack of space, insufficient knowledge and perceived complexity.
However, 64% of cannabis consumers said they'd like to have more educational resources on home cultivation, indicating a strong desire to overcome these barriers.
