IBM Unveils Comprehensive Cyber Resilience Strategy with Storage Defender in Latest Tech Webinar

In a recent webinar, International Business Machines Corporation IBM introduced its latest cyber resilience solution, the IBM Storage Defender, aimed at bolstering data protection against the rising tide of ransomware attacks. The session, led by IBM's technical specialist Tan Long Siau, highlighted the increasing frequency of cyberattacks and the critical need for businesses to adopt robust data resilience strategies.

Tan Long emphasized that nearly half of all cyberattacks are ransomware-based, with affected companies taking an average of 23 days to recover, if they recover at all. With only 50% of those paying ransoms successfully retrieving their data, the urgency for preemptive measures is clear. IBM's response to this threat landscape is a multi-layered defense strategy that integrates AI and machine learning to detect and respond to threats more rapidly than traditional security tools.

The IBM Storage Defender is designed to work in tandem with existing cybersecurity measures to provide a comprehensive solution. It offers five key capabilities: foundational security and data protection, immutability to prevent unauthorized deletion, early detection of attacks, rapid recovery, and automated orchestration for a simplified response process.

IBM's approach to ransomware detection is unique, with the ability to detect threats within minutes instead of hours. The Storage Defender's sensors perform near real-time scanning at the file system level, employing a three-layer analysis that includes encryption detection, machine learning-based pattern recognition, and heuristic techniques.

The webinar also showcased IBM's Defender Data Protect, a backup solution that supports a wide range of systems and offers features like immutable backups, industry-leading deduplication, and instant recovery. The product's hyperconverged infrastructure allows for easy scalability and a lower total cost of ownership.

Tan Long concluded the session by encouraging attendees to register for IBM's cyber resiliency assessment workshop and reiterated IBM's commitment to providing a unified data resilience solution that can protect against and recover from cyber threats efficiently.
