Lockheed Martin Selected To Deliver Efficient Cloud Hosting Services For Department Of Interior Worth Maximum $1 Billion

The U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) selected Lockheed Martin LMT to transition the agency to the cloud through efficient information technology (IT) service delivery solutions. The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract is valued up to $1 billion, with options that extend through 2023. Under the Foundation Cloud Hosting Services contract, DOI data and applications currently housed in more than 400 data centers, rooms and closets will be moved to the cloud to increase efficiency and meet the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative. The corporation has built a strong team of diverse partners to respond to DOI's requirements. "Lockheed Martin offers an affordable, low-risk and user-friendly path to transition the Department of Interior from traditional to cloud-based IT," said Frank Armijo, vice president of Energy Solutions for the company's Information Systems & Global Solutions business. "We understand how to combine data center consolidation, cloud and other green IT practices to help our customers meet their mission needs and maximize the benefits of advanced technology." Named by Washington Technology as the number one provider of IT services to the federal government for the past 19 years, Lockheed Martin has proven experience in designing and executing energy efficient IT services and solutions, as well as managing the consolidation and relocation of data centers and major IT programs. Lockheed Martin's mission-based Solutions as a Service (SolaS®) platform leverages the corporation's industry partnerships, advanced technologies, domain and cyber security expertise and green IT practices to deliver a suite of on-demand, secure, scalable and compliant cloud solutions. A thought leader in cloud computing, Lockheed Martin has been very involved in shaping standards across the industry. Lockheed Martin received the highest level Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) authorization from the FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board to become an approved provider of secure community cloud services to federal, state and local agencies. The company is one of the first large federal contractors to receive this level of authorization. This validates Lockheed Martin's strong cloud security practices and reassures federal agencies as they move to the cloud. Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 116,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation's net sales for 2012 were $47.2 billion.
