United Airlines Holdings Inc UAL is reportedly adjusting its plans for two new routes, delaying their launch due to growth constraints amid a safety review by U.S. aviation authorities.
A route linking Newark, New Jersey, and Faro, Portugal, initially slated for May 24, will now commence in the summer of 2025, reported Bloomberg.
Additionally, the route between Tokyo and Cebu, Philippines, planned for July 31, has been rescheduled for October 27, the report added.
The adjustments reflect United’s slowed expansion amid a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) review, prompted by recent safety incidents, including aircraft mishaps like an incident in Houston and a wheel detachment post-takeoff.
Heightened scrutiny followed an Alaska Air Group, Inc. ALK incident earlier this year.
The FAA announced enhanced oversight, resulting in operational delays for United. The carrier is concurrently undertaking internal evaluations.
According to the report, a United spokesperson affirmed that the route adjustments are linked to the ongoing FAA review, which has impacted certification processes.
Affected customers have the option of full refunds or rebooking through partner airlines without additional charges, United assured.
Price Action: UAL shares traded higher by 0.51% at $43.53 on the last check Tuesday.
