The PGA Championship teed off at Rochester, NY's Oak Hill Country club Thursday. With buzz around the season's last major championship, Pete Bevacqua, PGA of America CEO went over possible viewing issues, the course, and the general state of professional golf on CNBC's Squawk Box this morning.
"We have such a great partner here with both Turner Sports TWX and obviously with CBS CBS, and CBS has really done a great job of just keeping us abreast of all the developments…We have our fingers crossed that maybe that gets resolved, and if not, we'll work with CBS to try to get this championship…the season's final major, to as many households as possible," said Bevacqua speaking to the ongoing controversy between the two media companies.
According to Bevacqua, there's no development to speak of despite constant talks between Turner Sports and CBS. He was rich with enthusiasm for the championship nonetheless.
"Golf is really firing on all cylinders at this point. We have some great major champions with Adam Scott, Justin Rose, and Phil [Mickelson]. We have Tiger Woods, who had another runaway victory last week," said Bevacqua.
"We have such great momentum in the sport right now at the highest level, and here this week we have 99 of the top 100 players in the world," said Bevacqua.

In regards to the course, Oak Hill, Bevacqua said that it's one of the most difficult in the game.
"It's one of the great historic venues in this country. It is timeless. It is just, it has a championship pedigree that's really second to none in this country, and quite frankly in the world," said Bevacqua.
Bevacqua said that Oakland Hills is the type of course that makes the world's best players think, "off the tee, think around the greens," and that it's timeless, citing the highly competitive nature of the course under championship conditions over the past century.
"It really has all the ingredients to be s special championship, and the weather's been really just unbelievable," said Bevacqua.
