Trump Gets Picked On By Democrats For Allegedly Snoozing In Court: 'His Jaw Kept Falling On His Chest And His Mouth Kept Going Slack'

Democrats are taking jabs at former President Donald Trump for allegedly dozing off during his hush money trial in New York.

What Happened: Trump was seen with his eyes closed and leaning back in his chair during the trial, reported The Hill on Monday. The press corps had differing opinions on whether Trump was actually asleep.

Senior political correspondent at The New York Times, Maggie Haberman, stated that Trump appeared to be sleeping and even ignored a note passed to him by his lawyer. His "jaw kept falling on his chest and his mouth kept going slack," Haberman told CNN.

This observation was shared by other prominent figures, including Kate Bedingfield, former communications director to President Joe Biden, and Dan Pfeiffer, former senior adviser to President Barack Obama.

Why It Matters: Trump’s trial is related to a hush money payment made to adult film actor Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election. The trial began on Monday with the jury selection process, which is expected to last several days before opening arguments commence.

Meanwhile, Trump’s request to attend the Supreme Court’s oral arguments on presidential immunity was rejected by the New York judge overseeing his trial. This decision came after Trump’s previous request to attend his son Barron’s high school graduation in May, which is still under consideration by the judge.

On Sunday, Former President Donald Trump was also ridiculed on social media after a speech in Pennsylvania where he made a series of confusing statements about the Battle of Gettysburg. The former president's comments about the historic battle were described as "nonsensical" by some users.

According to Real Clear Politics, at the national level, Trump held 45.6% support among voters, While Biden trailed with 45.4% support.
