Former White House Communications Director and financier Anthony Scaramucci issued a stark warning to the American public about a potential second term for former President Donald Trump.
What Happened: A second term for Trump would give people “American fascism,” said Scaramucci in an interview with media personality Mehdi Hasan this week. “I do believe that he’s an existential threat to the constitutional system of America, the Republic of America.”
Scaramucci also explained why the ex-president is more dangerous this time around. “The people with him are very experienced. They are very disciplined. He’s running a way better campaign in 24 than he did in ’16 or ’20,” he said.
Trump’s team believes in “unitary executive power,” Scaramucci said, adding that this would mean expansion of the executive branch and liquidation of the other two branches. These other two branches – the legislative and judiciary, give us the checks and balances in the system, he said.
The American financier also sent out a warning to his fellow business friends. “If Mr. Trump takes power and he starts revoking the rule of law in the country or making the rule of law less predictable, that is very bad for the flow of capital and it’s very, very bad for your business,” he said.
Scaramucci noted that Trump praises dictators such as Vladimir Putin, and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. North Korea’s Kim Jon Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling the latter as a smart guy.
“He [Trump] wants to be the North American autocrat,” the ex-White House aide said, adding that unlike accusations leveled against him that he has “Trump derangement syndrome,” he has “Trump reality syndrome.”
The financier also clarified that he wasn’t a “never Trumper” but was a “once Trumper.”
Why It’s Important: Trump, although not officially confirmed, will likely be the Republican party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential race. Despite the legal challenges he is facing and his extremist “MAGA” stance, he is running neck-on-neck with President Joe Biden, who is likely to be his opponent from the other side of the aisle.
For that matter, Biden has his own fair share of troubles including inflation that is running hot and keeping interest rates at 22-year high. The American public is feeling increasingly uncomfortable with their personal financial position, opinion polls reveal. The incumbent’s age and associated decline in mental faculty is also a pushback against him.
The Democratic party also faces a backlash over the way it has handled immigration, which is emerging as a key election issue this time around.
For the public, it is mostly likely an unpalatable task of picking from two not-so-desirable choices.
