Elon Musk Says 'Bring It On' After Russian Space Chief Touts Amur Rocket, Says It Can Be Reused Up To 5X More Than SpaceX's Falcon 9

SpaceX founder Elon Musk has accepted a challenge from the Russian space agency chief, Yuri Borisov, who said Roscosmos's Amur rocket can be reused up to five times more than the Falcon 9.

What Happened: Musk is raring to go after Russian space agency's Borisov big talk during a lecture at the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Moscow, Russia.

Speaking to the students about Russia's future space plans, Borisov claimed that the Amur-CNG rocket currently under development could be reused 50 to 100 times.

If Roscosmos manages to do it, it would put the Falcon 9's record 20 reuses to shame.

Musk, though, is confident and accepted Borisov's challenge.

"Bring it on."

Why It Matters: Musk’s acceptance of the challenge is significant given his track record in the space industry.

SpaceX has been a pioneer in reusable rocket technology, with the Falcon 9 rocket being reused 20 times so far. This is a significant achievement, as it has helped SpaceX reduce the cost of space travel.

It also offers a new challenge to Musk, who has bemoaned stagnation and criticized slow progress on the space exploration front. He wants to build a city on Mars in 20 years and thinks humanity should have a moon base and be among the stars.

Back in December 2023, Musk outlined his ambitious plans for Starship production, emphasizing the importance of reusable rockets in SpaceX’s long-term goals.
