In the latest Fortnite update (v29.30), Epic Games made a notable change by allowing players to block certain emotes often used in what the developers describe as “confrontational ways.”

Now, players can choose to hide four specific emotes, including ‘Laugh It Up’, ‘Take the L’, ‘Whipcrack’ and ‘Make It Plantain’.

IGN reported that instead of witnessing these potentially contentious moves, players who opt out will just see their character standing still, no sound effects included.

Epic Games explained their decision in a tweet, saying: “We want emotes to be a source of good vibes, but a few (cough Take the L cough) can sometimes feel a bit overly confrontational.”

The new setting, located under “Social Privacy,” defaults to only showing these emotes from friends in the player’s party, but players have the freedom to change this as they wish.

The game’s early success was fueled in part by these emotes, which generated significant revenue. Some of them became iconic dances, embraced beyond gaming circles, with even professional athletes incorporating them into their celebrations.

While some players are surprised by the move, others support it, concerned about the toxic atmosphere certain emotes can create.

How To Block Confrontational Emotes In Fortnite

1. Click on your profile and navigate to the settings tab in Fortnite.
2. Go to the Account and Privacy section and scroll down.
3. Locate the “See Confrontational Emotes” option and toggle the arrow to select your preference.
4. If you wish to hide these emotes from everyone, choose “Never” and click the Apply button.
