After China, Tesla Announces European Tour For Cybertruck Despite Sales Being Limited To US

EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA is planning a Cybertruck tour in Europe after taking the stainless steel truck for a spin around China earlier this year. The vehicle, however, is not for sale in either of these geographies.

What Happened: Tesla on Sunday shared a short video teasing a tour starting April 30 across the European cities of London, Berlin, Venice, Barcelona, Prague, and Amsterdam, among others.

More details of the tour, the company said, will be made available on Tuesday.

This is Tesla’s second major Cybertruck tour outside of the U.S. In January, the company went on a tour across China.

In December, Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy told motoring publication TopGear that the Cybertruck might find it hard to get approval in Europe owing to laws that attempt to regulate external projections on vehicles. A month later, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that getting approvals for the Cybertruck in China, too, would be “very difficult.”

Why It Matters: Tesla started delivering to customers in the U.S. in late November. It is currently ramping up production to meet the high demand. The company aims to deliver 250,000 units of the truck annually starting in 2025.

However, earlier this month Tesla recalled 3,878 Cybertruck vehicles over concerns of unintentional acceleration.

The company said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the accelerator pedal pad on the affected vehicles may dislodge and become trapped by the interior trim above the pedal, thereby causing it to accelerate without the driver intending to.

As for a solution, the company said it would replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly, free of charge to the customer.
