Former President Donald Trump has accused President Joe Biden of attempting to assassinate him during a 2022 FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.
What Happened: Trump, the former president, made the claim in a campaign email, The Washington Post reported on Monday. This marks the first time in modern U.S. history that a former president has accused his successor of attempting to kill him.
Trump’s claim was based on the “locked & loaded” language in the Mar-a-Lago search warrant, which authorizes the use of deadly force if necessary. The FBI, however, stated that it followed standard protocol for all search warrants and did not deviate from the norm in this case.
The FBI also confirmed that it chose a day for the raid when Trump would not be present and informed the Secret Service to avoid any potential conflict.
Trump’s allies, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), also echoed these conspiracy theories on social media.
Trump is currently facing charges of mishandling classified documents and obstructing their retrieval. He is also facing multiple charges in two cases related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
