Marvel's 'What If...? - An Immersive Story' To Debut On Apple Vision Pro: Here's What Fans Can Expect On May 30

Marvel Entertainment fans are in for a treat as they will soon be able to immerse themselves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and play a part as a superhero. This exclusive experience, titled “What If…? – An Immersive Story,” will soon be available on Apple Inc.’s AAPL first-generation mixed-reality headset, Vision Pro.

What Happened: On Wednesday, Marvel gave a sneak peek of what users can expect from the “What If…? – An Immersive Story” experience, based on the original Disney+ animated series of the same name.

“What If… You Were Chosen? Step into the Multiverse and harness the power of the Infinity Stones in this reality-bending story from Marvel Studios, ILM Immersive, and Disney+,” the entertainment magnet announced.

Participants will be required to engage with the Marvel universe alongside the show’s heroes, including Iron Man, using both virtual and augmented reality. They will be up against fan-favorite villains like Thanos and Hela.

“The Multiverse is in danger and The Watcher needs your help. Dangerous variants are hunting Infinity Stones and altering the fate of not only their realities, but yours as well. To save the fate of the Multiverse, you'll need to use your own hands to learn mystic spells, defend your allies in epic battles, and more,” the announcement read.

Simply put, Vision Pro users will need to learn the mystic spells from the “Doctor Strange” world as a first-year sorcerer in a quick yet efficient manner.

The project came to life through ILM Immersive, Marvel Studios, and Disney+ combined efforts. It was made possible by the spatial computing capabilities of the Apple Vision Pro.

“What If… an Immersive Story” will be available to all Vision Pro users on Thursday, May 30. It will be a free app to download for a limited time. The experience will last approximately an hour and will feature stunning visuals and spatial audio.

Why It Matters: Apple’s Vision Pro has reportedly been facing some challenges. Last month, it was reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook had cut the shipment forecasts by up to 50% due to a sharp decline in demand.

On the other hand, the headset has also been witnessing some success, especially in the healthcare sector. Earlier this month, it was reported that surgeons in India have employed Vision Pro for laparoscopic surgeries. This surgery is commonly referred to as the “Keyhole” surgery.
