California: Senate Pass Bill Removing Cannabis Employment Protections For Certain Law Enforcement Positions 

The state Senate passed a bill scaling down current employment protections for people who consume cannabis legally while off work. The measure that was approved Wednesday and sent to the Assembly for consideration removes protections for sworn law enforcement positions that involve certain duties, reported Marijuana Moment. 

Alaska: To Establish Task Force To Get Ready For Psychedelics Therapies 

The Alaska Legislature recently passed a bill to establish a psychedelic medicine task force to help the state prepare for likely federal legalization of psychedelic therapies, reported the Alaska Republic. The main sponsor of the House version of the bill, Rep. Jennie Armstrong (D), said that the task force doesn't offer either a positive or a negative stance on psychedelic therapies, but that studies with MDMA as a treatment of PTSD show a lot of promise. 

Veterans Health Administration Launches Internal ‘Psychedelic Charter

The Veterans Health Administration recently created an internal "Psychedelic Charter" to create a plan for the deployment of FDA-approved psychedelic treatment for mental health disorders, writes The Intercept citing an obtained document and two anonymous sources. 

Louisiana: House Lawmakers Kill Bill That Would Create Regulatory Framework For Legal Weed

Louisiana House rejected this week a measure that would set up a regulatory framework for recreational cannabis use, sponsored by Rep. Candace Newell (D), reported Marijuana Moment. While the bill, HB 978, would not legalize marijuana on its own, it would initiate the set up of a regulatory system that would take over if the state or the federal government legalized it at some point.

Delaware: House Committee Passes Bill Allowing Medical Marijuana Providers To Launch Recreational Sales 

The House Economic Development/Banking/Insurance and Commerce Committee advanced this week a bill that would enable current licensed medical marijuana providers to provide its services to adult-use consumers as well, writes Marijuana Moment. The legislation, House Bill 408, sponsored by Rep. Ed Osienski (D) and Sen. Trey Paradee (D) creates "a temporary conversion license for existing medical marijuana compassion centers to operate for recreational marijuana purposes, and sets forth requirements to obtain a conversion license and to operate under such a license." 

The Bahamas: Cannabis Bill Introduced In Parliament 

The Minister of Health and Wellness the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville recently introduced the Cannabis Bill 2023 to Parliament. The bill seeks to establish a regulated medical marijuana framework, reported St. Kitts & Nevis Observer. Several days after the bill was introduced, Prime Minister Philip Davis confirmed that his administration is only concentrated on regulating medical marijuana as the "jury remains out" on the impacts of recreational cannabis.
