Netflix To Discontinue Support For Older Apple TV Models: What You Need To Know

Netflix Inc NFLX recently announced it would no longer be available on second-generation and third-generation Apple TVs.

According to The Verge, the change is set to take effect after July 31, 2024. The decision comes as part of Netflix's efforts to "maintain the best possible Netflix experience" for its users.

The first three generations of Apple TV models, which came out more than a decade ago, are already considered "obsolete" by Apple Inc AAPL, which typically discontinues service for hardware seven years after it stops selling a product. As a result, users with second-generation and third-generation Apple TVs will no longer receive updates or support from Netflix.

The reason behind this move remains unclear, as Netflix has not provided specific details. Both of these older Apple TV models lack access to Apple's App Store, which may have influenced the decision.
