Delaware’s Fast-Track Marijuana Bill Heads To Governor
Members of the Delaware Senate approved a measure to kick off recreational cannabis sales in medical marijuana dispensaries that are already operating. The measure previously advanced through the Delaware House of Representatives and now heads to Governor John Carney for review, reported Marijuana Moment.
The measure from Rep. Ed Osienski (D) and Sen. Trey Paradee (D) creates "a temporary conversion license for existing medical marijuana compassion centers to operate for recreational marijuana purposes, and sets forth requirements to obtain a conversion license and to operate under such a license."
Delay In Virginia Medical Cannabis Licensing
The Virginia cannabis regulator will postpone awarding a medical cannabis license for a region that encompasses the Shenandoah Valley as well as parts of central Virginia, reported Green Market Report.
Shawn Casey, deputy chief of the Cannabis Control Authority said reviewing 16,000 pages of application materials from 40 applicants requires more time.
"Given the great interest in the application process, as shown by the number of applications … we know the result will be highly scrutinized," Casey said. "We wanted to make sure that we're taking the time necessary to ensure the integrity and comprehensiveness of the recommendation that gets to the board and we'll have an updated timeline whenever we can."
Bill To Set Up Psilocybin Therapy Pilot Program For California Vets And First Responders Struck Down
A measure that would have set up a pilot program under which psilocybin treatment for military veterans and first responders would be legal was nixed by California lawmakers, reported Marijuana Moment.
The Heal Our Heroes Act from Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones (R) and Sen. Josh Becker (D) seeks the counties of San Francisco, Santa Cruz and San Diego to set up such programs.
"I’m not calling for the widespread legalization of psychedelic drugs," Jones said in a press release at the time of the measure's introduction. "Rather, I’m championing a targeted medical treatment aimed specifically at aiding veterans and first responders in their recovery.”
