The deadline for Apple Inc.‘s AAPL iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users to claim a portion of the $35 million settlement fund, established after a class-action lawsuit regarding audio issues, has been extended.

What Happened: The deadline for users to claim a payment from the settlement fund, which was initially set for Jun. 3, has now been extended to Jul. 3.

The lawsuit, filed against Apple in 2019, addressed alleged audio issues linked to the “audio IC” chip in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices used between Sept. 16, 2016, and Jan. 3, 2023. Apple has denied any wrongdoing and disputes the claims.

Users who may be eligible for compensation have been notified by the Settlement Administrator via email or postcard.

How To File A Claim?

To receive their payment, users must inform the Settlement Administrator of their preferred payment method by Jul, 3. Payment options include electronic checks, ACH transfers, or physical checks.

Settlement Class Members who submit their payment information will receive compensation based on their interactions with Apple regarding audio issues in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices.

Here’s Much You Could Be Eligible For

Members who paid Apple out of pocket for repairs or replacements related to audio issues, as verified by Apple’s records, and who do not opt out and submit their payment information on time, will receive an equal payment ranging from a minimum of $50 to a maximum of $349.

Members who reported audio issues to Apple but did not pay for repairs or replacements will receive an equal payment of up to $125.

Important Considerations

If you remain in the Settlement Class and submit the required payment information by the deadline, you will receive a Class Payment once the Court approves the Settlement.

If you do not provide the required payment information by Jul. 3, you will still be a member of the Settlement Class but will forfeit the Class Payment. Additionally, you will waive your right to sue Apple regarding the claims in this lawsuit.

Apple agreed to settle the iPhone 7 “Loop Disease” class action lawsuit in 2023, with the total payout fixed at $35 million. The suit alleged that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were prone to an audio issue because of a defective chip used by Apple.
