About 82% of American gamers made in-game purchases in freemium titles last year, according to Comscore’s 2024 State of Gaming Report (via GamesIndustry.biz).

The report, published in partnership with in-game advertising platform Anzu, provides a comprehensive look at gaming habits, revealing that 62% of adults over 18 engage in gaming activities.

Millennials dominate this demographic, making up 49%, followed by Gen Z at 13%.

One of the most notable findings is the multi-platform usage among gamers; 77% of gamers play on more than one platform.

Over a third of these gamers regularly use a combination of console, PC, and mobile devices, illustrating the diverse ways people access games.

Esports Popularity Soars: Esports continues to be a significant part of the gaming ecosystem, particularly among younger demographics. The report indicates that 86% of Gen Z and 80% of millennials watched esports last year. Furthermore, 53% of Gen Z and 61% of millennials engaged with esports content, underscoring the growing popularity of competitive gaming.

“Our 2024 State of Gaming Report highlights the cultural significance of gaming and the vital role of gamer behavior for brands looking to tap into this dynamic and engaged audience,” said Comscore’s chief commercial officer, Steve Bagdasarian.

Hours Spent On Gaming: The sheer volume of time spent on gaming is staggering. U.S. gamers logged 45 billion hours on gaming sites and apps in the past year. This figure emphasizes the deep level of engagement and dedication gamers have towards their hobby, making it a fertile ground for advertisers and content creators.
