Reid Hoffman And Mark Cuban Are Among Over 100 Silicon Valley Investors Supporting Harris

Television personality Mark Cuban and LinkedIn Co-Founder Reid Hoffman are among over 100 venture capitalists rallying behind Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for president. 

The significant show of support comes amid worries that former President Donald Trump is gaining influence in Silicon Valley.

"We spend our days looking for, investing in and supporting entrepreneurs who are building the future," the VCs for Kamala website states. "We are a pro-business, pro-American dream, pro-entrepreneurship and pro-technological progress."

VCs for Kamala is a grassroots initiative launched by Leslie Feinzaig, founder and general partner of Graham & Walker Venture Fund. After witnessing numerous prominent venture capitalists declare their support for Donald Trump, Feinzaig penned a three-paragraph pledge backing Harris and shared it with about a dozen friends who volunteered to assist. Five days later, #VCsforKamala was introduced with its first 110 signatories, representing a combined $150 billion in assets under management.

"We also believe in democracy as the backbone of our nation," the website states. "We believe that strong, trustworthy institutions are a feature, not a bug, and that our industry – and every other industry – would collapse without them. That is what's at stake in this election. Everything else, we can solve through constructive dialogue with political leaders and institutions willing to talk to us."

The people on the list – now numbering more than 500 – include not just known democrats but also moderates and independents, according to the website. Each person's reasons for signing are unique and varied. However, they all are committed to safeguarding American democracy and want to engage with each other and elect leaders based on the issues they care about.

The show of support for Harris comes as Trump has attracted several former Democratic donors in Silicon Valley, including tech adviser Jacob Helberg, venture capitalist Shaun Maguire and billionaire technology tycoon Elon Musk.

It's been just over a week since President Joe Biden withdrew from his reelection campaign following a disastrous debate against Trump, which raised concerns about his ability to run and serve effectively at age 81.

Since then, Harris, 59, has revitalized the presidential race, raising $200 million and generating endorsements from high-profile celebrities like Mark Hamill, best known as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, and Jeff Bridges, also known as Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski.
